June 2012

Toronto, ON—In preparation for this August’s national workers
conference titled “Workers’ Struggle Amidst Neoliberal
Globalization,” the Philippine Women Centre of Ontario (PWC-ON)
earlier this year brought to the fore the fundamental role of race,
class and gender in creating genuine social change and the need to
build a strong and progressive women’s movement at a public forum
organized in celebration of International Women’s Day. Put together
in collaboration with UKPC/FCYA–ON @ York and UofT, “Taking the
Revolutionary Road: Heightening Women’s Resistance Against
Neoliberalism” was held both at York University and University of
Toronto.

Speakers included the Executive Director of National Alliance of
Philippine Women in Canada Cecilia Diocson, activist and York
University professor Rachel Gorman, community organizer for Justice
for Migrant Workers Evelyn Encalada, and York Univeristy professor in
Equity Studies, Tania Das Gupta. The fierce lineup of women brought
forth issues of transnational organizing, sustaining genuine social
movements, and the need to organize in the face of the intensifying
attacks against women by austerity and neoliberalism.

Documentation of the discussion period from the second day of the
public forum are now available online. The discussion has been broken
up to three videos, each addressing a question put forth by
participants toward the panel. All videos are available via the
