Message of Solidarity from the Coalition of Immokalee Workers

We send you this message on behalf of CIW for workers in Canada:
We stand in solidarity with your struggle and we hope that with this march you can achieve all the dreams that you pursue as migrant workers upon arriving in Canada, the dream of providing—with your work and sacrifice—the dignified life that each of you and your families deserve, the dream that one day Canadian families will value the sacred humanity of each worker, celebrating not only the abundance of food on their tables but also on the workers’ tables.
We are not prophets but from our own experiences we know that when you lose your fear and confront the powers that oppress us, changes begin to happen and we know that one day, you and your families will achieve your dreams through your struggle. The power of the bosses and the companies only exist while workers’ fears continue to live within the workers.
Undoubtedly there’ll be difficult moments in your struggle; and like you, many of us do not have our families here—thousands of miles and many moons separate us from our children, parents, grandparents, siblings, spouses, and loved ones. A lump in our throat forms as we put on hold the embrace we must keep until the day we see each other again. We know how difficult distance is and for that reason we understand each other perfectly—poverty and abuses convert us into partners in the same struggle.
For this reason, we want you to know that you are not alone and that our voice joins the voice of the worker members of the CIW.

A nombre de los miembros de la Coalicion de Trabajadores de Immokalee les enviamos este mensaje.
Estamos en solidaridad con su lucha y esperamos que con esta marcha puedan lograr establecer todos los sueños que como trabajadores inmigrantes vienen persiguiendo al llegar a Canadá, el sueño de brindar con su trabajo y sacrificio la vida digna que cada uno de ustedes y sus familias merecen, el sueño de que un día las familias canadienses valoren la sagrada humanidad de cada trabajador celebrando no solo la abundancia de comida en sus mesas sino también la abundancia en la mesa de los trabajadores .
No somos profetas pero por experiencia propia sabemos que cuando se pierde el miedo y se confronta al poder que nos oprime los cambios se empiezan a dar y sabemos que un día, con su lucha, ustedes y sus familias lograran sus sueños, el poder del patrón y las compañías existe solamente mientras el miedo del trabajador sigue viviendo en el trabajador.
Habrá momentos difíciles en su lucha, sin duda, al igual que ustedes, muchos de nosotros no tenemos a nuestras familias aquí miles de millas y muchas lunas nos separan de nuestros hijos, padres, abuelos, hermanos, esposas y seres queridos. Siempre guardando con un nudo en la garganta, el abrazo que obligadamente por nuestra realidad se mantiene en pausa hasta el día en que los veamos de nuevo. Sabemos lo difícil de la distancia y por eso los entendemos perfectamente, somos la pobreza y los abusos nos convierten en compañeros de la misma lucha.
Por esa razón queremos que sepan que no están solos, y que a su voz se une también la voz de los trabajadores miembros de la Coalicion de Trabajadores de Immokalee.
