$30,000.00 Scholarship Opportunity for Urban Educators

Are you currently working with racialized and marginalized students from economically disadvantaged neighborhoods who are not experiencing success in school? Are you interested in entering a Master’s program that seeks to raise critical questions about social inequality, the achievement gap, equity pedagogy and systemic change in schools?

OISE is offering four $30,000 scholarships for teachers who are interested in such a graduate program.  Here is what some of the 2010-2011 successful scholarship recipients have to say about their experiences so far.

“… this opportunity will provide me with both a challenging academic setting and a stimulating political culture; an atmosphere that will enable me to grow and become more effective in my lifelong commitment to addressing the various injustices that are present within our schools and society at large.”

Jozef Konyari

The William Waters scholarship to me is a gift of time to engage and discuss with other practitioners in the field regarding how we can hone in on our practice and also come to terms with the issues of inequality and justice in the classroom.  “
Julia Hainer-Violand

“ I look forward to not only pursuing my own research interests in educational equity, but also to working collaboratively with the Centre for Urban Schooling on their social justice initiatives. This promises to be a very exciting, yet fulfilling year!”

Ambeika Sukhram

The William Waters Scholarship in Urban Education could make it financially possible for you to return to school full-time to continue your professional learning in an exciting, challenging and empowering environment. Successful candidates will be invited to join the Centre for Urban Schooling and participate in a wide variety of activities related to research, professional development, advocacy and teacher education promoted by the Centre of the course of the year.
